Potato growing 2024: hazards and chances

The conference, held in the conference hall of the Ramada Encore hotel in Kyiv, was organized by the companies Solana Ukraina, BASF, Yara and Ukrainian Association of potato producers (UAPP) and brought together potato growers from different regions of Ukraine.

Oleksii Olabyn, seed agronomist of Solana Ukraina, presented the report "Potato farming 2024: hazards and chances" describing the situation on the potato market in Ukraine, the EU and neighboring countries, as well as the forecast of changes that await this market in the near future. Oleksii also informed about the rebranding of the company Solana and the further development of Solana’s group of companies. The circumstances and results of the last season and prospects for the upcoming season of 2024 were discussed.

The head of UAPP Thomas Carpenter outlined his tasks for the period of his leadership in association: receive the export status for the Ukrainian fresh potatoes; lobby Government for subsidies and grants; support displaced Farmers; promotion of the Ukrainian seed production and others.

Our partners from BASF presented the fungicide Reviona, as well reported the situation with potato anthracnose spreading in Ukraine and the need for early measures to prevent an increase in pathogen harmfulness.

A representative of Yara Ukraina told about experiments comparing the action of various nutritional complexes from Yara and provided recommendations on fertilizing schemes for potato plants.

«Let's respect each other, let's unite, let's be!» - these words of O. Boychuk best convey the mood of potato growers for 2024.
