Potato Day Ukraine 2025

On August 29, in Chukva village, Sambir district, Lviv region, at the base of the Continental Farmers Group agroholding, the All-Ukrainian event Potato Day Ukraine 2025 was held. Preparations continued throughout the growing season and aimed to study the varietal potential of potatoes in Ukraine in order to create a sustainable basis for professional potato production and study herbicide protection schemes for potatoes. All 11 seed companies operating in Ukraine participated in the variety trials. During the growing season, the quality indicators of varieties were studied in five different regions of Ukraine on different soils, with different irrigation systems and without irrigation, with different planting, processing and feeding technologies. The final results at all five locations will be announced a little beat later.

Meanwhile, on August 29, all those who are engaged in potato growing gathered in Chukva to see with their own eyes ca. 80 potato varieties together in one field. Solana Ukraina TOV as well took part in this event and presented 10 varieties for variety testing. Weather conditions this year in Sambir district and in Chukva namely were rather difficult: drought in the first part of the growing season, lack of moisture until the end of June, compressed ridges, then 150 mm of precipitation in 2 days, then moderate weather conditions, then heavy hail, drought again, rain again. However, despite all those adverse weather conditions there are no internal or external defects on the presented Solana varieties! No cracks or secondary growth. This once again confirms the uniqueness of the genetics of Solana varieties, which gives potatoes resistance even in the most difficult weather conditions.

Solana varieties passed the tests with honour and demonstrated excellent results. Once again, we were able to make sure that Solana genetics is so powerful that it allows us to get a stable result from year to year. Farmers who grow Solana varieties do not have risks with a miserable harvest or inadequate quality. Therefore, business and work with Solana varieties is a guarantee of stability for all farmers and market participants.
